We are 40 minutes drive from central Cape Town via Ou Kaapseweg (Old Cape
Road), or Chapman's Peak Drive, famed for its breathtaking scenery.
With Slangkop mountain as a backdrop, Stepping Stones is a short
stroll from the natural harbour known as 'The Kom', and Long Beach,
an 8km stretch of unspoilt, white sandy beach renowned for its
excellent surfing, kite-boarding and kayaking.
Walks along the beach are accompanied by the sounds of the surf and
the cries of a variety of seabirds including terns, gannets, petrels
and sandpipers. Long Beach is also home to a colony of rare African
Black Oystercatchers which can be seen using their bright red beaks
to remove limpets and mussels from the rocks. Kommetjie's resident
Cape Clawless Otter is often to be seen lazing on the rocks in the
sun.
The mountain behind Kommetjie is popular amongst locals and
visitors for its beautifully scenic walking trails. It is also home
to a wonderful variety of indigenous flora (fynbos) and fauna.
Slangkop Lighthouse is a short stroll from Stepping Stones.
Commissioned in 1919, it is manufactured from cast iron and is the
tallest lighthouse in South Africa.
Stepping Stones' location allows patients to reconnect with nature.
Daily beach walks and weekly mountain hikes facilitate healing on a
physical, psychological and spiritual level.
