Our aim here is to provide a continuum of extended care of 8 to 12 weeks that follows directly after clients have completed primary care. As the teams at The Beach House House and Stepping Stones work cohesively, continuity in the client's treatment is assured.
During the client's stay at Secondary Care, we aim to:
- Support clients through the early stages of recovery in a safe, caring and structured environment. Unlike primary care, there is considerable opportunity to interact with the outside world.
- Address unresolved issues such as losses, trauma and dysfunctional childhood experiences, as well as current family issues.
- Help clients to consolidate changes to negative behaviour and attitudes that would obstruct their recovery.
- Enable clients to start experiencing the benefits of recovery in the real world.
- Continue building relapse prevention tools to help clients thoroughly prepare for re-integration into their home, work and social environments.
- Ensure that the client returns home with a supportive and realistic recovery plan.
The rich and varied programme is designed to give The Beach House residents real life opportunities to develop 'emotional muscle' and practice the skills needed to sustain recovery in the real world with all its challenges.
Residents are required to regularly attend 12 Step Fellowship meetings, and the programme aims to help them put the Twelve Step principles into practice. Residents carry out voluntary service in community-based service organizations in the surrounding area. This helps build self-esteem and a connection with others.
The Beach House offers comfortable accommodation with stunning sea views. Nutritious, tasty meals are provided by a dedicated chef. The private garden has a swimming pool, with the sea just a few steps away.
